A new researcher joins the Chromosome Replication group thanks to the help of Joan Oró from AGAUR.

7 June 2024
  • The thesis of the project is based on the further development of new anti-tumour inhibitors based on chromosome replication.
  • The grant awarded provides the opportunity to hire pre-doctoral research staff in training, and in this case the researcher Alba Bermejo has joined the project.

The Chromosomal Replication group of the Institute for Biomedical Research of Girona (IDIBGI) has received an IF grant from AGAUR and has been able to incorporate the pre-doctoral researcher Alba Bermejo. This research group is studying how to develop new specific and selective inhibitors of the first stages of DNA replication. This is a step that occurs before the cell divides, and therefore, stopping it would prevent tumour proliferation.

The grant is part of the Joan Oró grant financed by the Agència de Gestió d'Ajuts Universitaris i de Recerca (AGAUR) for the recruitment of pre-doctoral research staff in training (FI 2024).

The candidate who has been awarded the grant, Alba Bermejo, IDIBGI researcher, will devote this grant to further develop new inhibitors of tumour proliferation. The studies will be supervised by Dr. Jordi Frigola of the Chromosomal Replication research group.

Grant funded with the support of the AGAUR-FI predoctoral program grants (2024 FI-1 00465) Joan Oró from the Secretariat for Universities and Research of the Department of Research and Universities of the Government of Catalonia and the European Social Fund Plus.
